A very rare siliqua from Heraclea
Lot 5065
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Siliqua (Silver, 19 mm, 3.05 g, 5 h), Heraclea, 327. Plain-diademed head of Constantine I to right. Rev. CONSTAN-TINVS AVG / SMH Victory advancing left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. RIC 145. RSC 97d. Very rare. Holed and somewhat porous and with some scrapes on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This very rare piece was struck during Constantine's return journey from Rome. The vicennalian siliquae from Heraclea are unusual in that they were apparently only struck for Constantine I, but not for his sons. Nine pieces are known, two of which are in the Ramskold collection.
